- Introduction to Agriculture Foods & Natural Resources (AFNR)
Meets A-G Requirement – Grade 9
Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) introduces students to the range of agricultural opportunities and the pathways of study they may pursue. Science, mathematics, reading, and writing components are woven in the context of agriculture and students will use the introductory skills and knowledge developed in this course throughout the CASE™ curriculum. Woven throughout the course are activities to develop and improve employability skills of students through practical applications. Students will explore career and postsecondary opportunities in each area of the course. Students participating in the Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources course will experience hands-on activities, projects, and problems. Student experiences will involve the study of communication, the science of agriculture, plants, animals, natural resources, and agricultural mechanics. While surveying the opportunities available in agriculture and natural resources, students will learn to solve problems, conduct research, analyze data, work in teams, and take responsibility for their work, actions, and learning. For example, students will work in groups to determine the efficiency and environmental impacts of fuel sources in a practical learning exercise.
- Introduction to Plant Science (Principal of Agriscience – Plant)
Meets College Preparatory A-G Requirements- Grade 9, 10, 11 & 12
Foundation-level course that will teach students about the form and function of plant systems. Students are immersed in inquiry-based exercises filled with activities, projects, and problems to teach them plant concepts through laboratory and practical experiences. Student experiences will include the study of plant anatomy and physiology, classification, and the fundamentals of production and harvesting. Students will learn how to apply scientific knowledge and skills to use plants effectively for agricultural and horticultural production. Students will discover the value of plant production and its impact on the individual, the local, and the global economy. Co-Requisite- AFNR
- Horticulture/Plant Production Management
Meets College Preparatory A-G Requirements- Grade 10, 11 & 12
This course introduces students to agricultural methods and practices and the advanced development of plant production, maintenance, care design and marketing of food crops, such as almonds, oranges, pumpkins & garden plants as well as ornamental plants, including houseplants, nursery stock, and flowers. Turf, landscape maintenance, and design and installation are also introduced. Careers in the Plant Science pathway and agricultural impacts on business are also a classroom component.
