AG Business Pathway Course Description

Introduction to Agriculture Foods & Natural Resources (AFNR)    
 (Year Course – Meets Earth Science Graduation Requirement)
Meets A-G Requirement – Grade 9

​Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) introduces students to the range of agricultural opportunities and the pathways of study they may pursue. Science, mathematics, reading, and writing components are woven in the context of agriculture and students will use the introductory skills and knowledge developed in this course throughout the CASE™ curriculum. Woven throughout the course are activities to develop and improve employability skills of students through practical
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
applications. Students will explore career and postsecondary opportunities in each area of the course. Students participating in the Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources course will experience hands-on activities, projects, and problems. Student experiences will involve the study of communication, the science of agriculture, plants, animals, natural resources, and agricultural mechanics. While surveying the opportunities available in agriculture and natural resources, students will learn to solve problems, conduct research, analyze data, work in teams, and take responsibility for their work, actions, and learning. For example, students will work in groups to determine the efficiency and environmental impacts of fuel sources in a practical learning exercise.
 
 
 

Agriculture Leadership

(Year Course – Meets Agriculture Leadership Requirements)

Meets A-G Requirements – Grades 9-12

 
This Course is designed to develop responsibility, initiative, creativity, leadership, and school pride in the agriculture program. It provides class time for the planning and organization of meetings, social and recreational events, elections, service activities, community, and other events. Students will have the opportunity to study concepts of goal development as an individual and team, the keys to success as an individual and team, character development as an individual and team, group dynamic, Parliamentary law and procedures, critical thinking, public speaking, personal financial management, business and how it relates to the agriculture industry, career goals and the importance of Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs and the FFA in agricultural Education. Students are required to complete a 25 hours per semester in their SAE Project
 
AG Econ & Gov

 (Year Course – Meets Government & Economy Graduation Requirement)
Meets A-G Requirement – Grade 12

Agriculture Government Policy is a one semester course aligned to the principles of American Democracy content standards, designed for the college-bound student with career interests in agriculture. Using agriculture as the learning
vehicle, the course emphasizes the principles, central concepts and interrelationships of government. Agriculture Economics is designed for students interested in understanding the operations and institutions of economic systems as applied to our nation’s largest industry agriculture. Units of instruction include basic economic
concepts, comparative economic systems, individual and aggregate, economic behavior and international trade and policy. Instruction is also given in leadership and career education.
